FOLLOWING THE TEMPLARS – North and Centre
History carved in stone
Following the Tejo river we discover Almourol, an emblematic example of the Christian reconquest and the medieval architecture. If we go up a bit further, Monsanto awaits us. This place was destroyed during the wars with Castela and rebuilt afterwards. After a while, we reach Penha Garcia, with its stunning views and a castle surrounded by traditional houses.
There we will also find the Jewish Quarter until Vilar Maior. Vilar Maior is believed to have been built more than 1100 years ago and it has either an Arab or a Roman origin.
In Castelo Novo you will find a castle built in the plateau surrounded by river Mondego, farms and palaces.
You can also meet Tomar, host city of the ancient Templars, where you can hear legends of the Holy Graal and the Ark of the Covenant. And finally, just like the Templars once did, we will follow the way to Lisbon.
